Salvia officinalis 'Purpurascens' (Common Sage)

Subshrubby, erect, hairy, evergreen perennial with oblong-ovate, aromatic leaves, which a soft-purple when young. Branched stems bear racemes of lilac-blue flowers, 1.5cm long, in early and midsummer. A popular culinary herb used in stuffings; also adds flavour to meats and poultry dishes, salads, herb cheeses and vinegar.
